Myths About Cloud Migration

Myth 1. Storing and processing data is safer and more reliable on your own physical infrastructure in the office.

Redundant resources and multiple geographically dispersed data centers from a cloud infrastructure as a service provider are more reliable than your own on-premise system. Myth 2. The cloud is more expensive than owning your own servers.

In reality, owning your own servers requires significant investment. They periodically need repairs and component upgrades, or even complete replacement with a newer, higher-capacity model. They also occupy space in an office or data center, which incurs costs. Furthermore, servers need to be connected to high-speed internet, whereas with cloud servers, internet access is already included in the monthly subscription fee. Considering all expenses, you might find that you're paying much more for your own server than for the cloud. To rent a cloud server, you don't need to buy or configure anything; you only pay for the resources you use, and everything else is the provider's responsibility. Additionally, you pay for your own server upfront, while for the cloud, you make monthly payments.

‍Myth 3. It's easier for third parties to access information in the cloud. 

‍Even your "neighbors" on the public cloud service won't be able to see your files. However, if your project has heightened security requirements and you want to mitigate as many vulnerabilities as possible and maximize protection against hacker attacks, deploying a private cloud would be the ideal solution. Myth 4. After migrating to the cloud, it's impossible to return to physical infrastructure. 

‍Returning is possible. However, in our own experience, no one has yet tried to move back from the cloud, re-purchase servers, design IT, install everything, and configure it. The cloud has already proven to be more flexible, efficient, and cost-effective. Data can be easily transferred from one infrastructure to another without loss and with minimal downtime. Furthermore, if necessary, you will have the option to change your infrastructure as a service provider by migrating your data. Cloud technologies have become the next stage in business digitalization, helping companies operate faster and more efficiently. Additionally, you don't necessarily have to migrate your entire infrastructure to the provider's servers. You can also continue to use your own physical resources.

Myth 5. Owning your own servers is safer for data storage, considering regulations and corporate standards. 

‍The cloud has already proven to be more efficient, cheaper, safer, and more reliable than proprietary physical infrastructure. For clients with strict internal policies, Pro-Data provides for the installation of appropriate settings, as well as the installation and configuration of their own routers, firewalls, gateways, or VPN services within their corporate user networks. ‍Myth 6. I won't be able to control everything that happens in the cloud.

‍When entrusting cloud providers with critical project and client information, companies want to maintain full control over it. There's no need to worry: the cloud is designed so that no one but the data owner has access to it. Therefore, there's no reason to fear losing control of your data, missing important updates, or being unable to back up your system.
